The short answer on how to add known traveler number to delta: log in to My Profile on delta.com or in the Fly Delta app, open Personal Details, and enter your Known Traveler ID with your Secure Flight Passenger Data. For a trip you have already booked, add it in My Trips instead. The catch for Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI applicants: Delta says a KTN is active only after you complete enrollment at an application center, so conditional approval alone gives you nothing to enter.

That makes the interview wait the real deadline. The rest of this article covers the exact steps, then walks one traveler through the timing.

What number goes in the Known Traveler field

Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI members do not get a separate PreCheck number. Your CBP PASSID is your KTN. TSA describes it as a nine-digit number that usually begins with 98.

  • It is printed on the back of your card.
  • It is also in your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account, listed near the top of the account page.
  • You do not need the physical card in hand to add it to Delta. The card arrives 2 to 4 weeks after approval and must be activated within 30 days, but the PASSID is already in your TTP account.

Delta's field rules are short:

  • Enter only the Membership Number or PASS ID in the Known Traveler field.
  • Do not type "Opt In", "TSA Pre✓" or any other text.
  • Never put the KTN in the Redress number field.

Steps: how to add known traveler number to delta on the app and website

To save it to your profile (covers future trips):

  1. Log in to delta.com or the Fly Delta app.
  2. Open My Profile, then Personal Details.
  3. Add your Known Traveler ID in the Secure Flight Passenger Data section.
  4. Save. Delta says a KTN added to your profile syncs to your current reservation within 36 to 48 hours.

To add it to a trip you already booked:

  1. Open My Trips on delta.com or in the app and select the reservation.
  2. Add the number to that passenger's Known Traveler field.
  3. Delta says this updates the current reservation automatically.

Before you book a new trip: logging in to your SkyMiles account first fills in the KTN from your profile (NerdWallet, updated Oct 13, 2026). Guests can type it in at the passenger information step. NerdWallet also notes that adding a KTN to one ticket does not guarantee it carries over to future bookings, which is why the profile entry matters.

Make the name and birth date match

Your first, middle and last name, gender and date of birth on Delta must exactly match what you gave CBP or TSA. Delta's agency policy page lists a mismatched name or date of birth (Secure Flight data) as a common reason a member is not selected for PreCheck. Fix your Delta profile, and any travel-agency profile you use, before you add the number.

If you booked through an outside website or travel agency, Delta warns your KTN may not always reach the airline. Re-add it in My Trips on delta.com.

Worked example: a 10-week-out flight and a conditional approval

The dates below are made up to show the method. Your center's numbers will differ.

Dana books a Delta flight departing in 10 weeks (day 70). The same week she is conditionally approved for Global Entry. She has no working KTN yet, so she does this:

  1. She opens Global Entry wait times and looks up her nearest center. (The Global Entry appointment availability page shows each center's next bookable date. It does not say whether a slot is open right now.) NEXUS and SENTRI have their own wait-time pages.
  2. She works backward from departure: interview date, then enrollment complete and the number active, then the Delta entry, then check-in.
  3. She picks the Delta method based on how much time is left.

Here are three versions of her calendar:

Next bookable interviewDays before the flightWhat Dana does
Day 5218 daysAdd the PASSID to My Delta profile the day enrollment is complete. The 36 to 48 hour sync fits easily. Check the boarding pass at check-in.
Day 691 dayThe profile sync could miss the flight. Add the number in My Trips right after the interview, which Delta says updates the reservation automatically. Re-issue the boarding pass and look for the indicator.
Day 80After the flightNo working number by departure. Plan to fly without PreCheck, or look for an earlier interview date.

The rule of thumb: if the next bookable interview falls less than about 2 days before the flight, use My Trips, or plan to fly without PreCheck.

Timeline to the day 70 flight: a day 52 interview leaves room for the 36 to 48 hour sync, day 69 does not, and day 80 falls after the flight.

For how long approval and card steps take after the interview, see Global Entry turnaround time.

Check the boarding pass, not the card

The card itself does not get you into the PreCheck lane. TSA says the TSA Pre✓ indicator must be printed on, and embedded in the barcode of, your boarding pass. After adding the KTN, re-issue your boarding pass and look for TSA PRE or TSAPRECHK. If it is missing, check the KTN and name match first.

Options when the interview date is too late

Enrollment on Arrival (EoA). Conditionally approved Global Entry applicants can finish the interview when arriving on an international flight at a participating airport, with no appointment needed. If you already have an interview scheduled, it is canceled automatically once you complete EoA. This helps only if you have an international arrival coming up. It will not help for a domestic Delta flight. See what Enrollment on Arrival involves.

The fee. The CBP application fee is $120 for Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS, effective Oct 1, 2024 for Global Entry and SENTRI under the Federal Register final rule (Global Entry rose from $100). NEXUS was harmonized to $120 by a separate notice. Some CBP pages still show $100. Use $120. Minors under 18 are exempt when applying with, or after, a parent or legal guardian in the same program. Each membership lasts 5 years.

Renewing. You can renew up to 1 year before expiration. If you submit the renewal before your membership expires, you keep benefits for up to 24 months after the expiration date (CBP FAQ). Your PASSID is used to link your TTP account at renewal. Before any trip, check that your Delta profile still shows a valid number. A replacement card costs $25, and you do not need it to add the number.

Getting an earlier interview slot

Nobody can promise you an appointment date. GlobalEntryTexts texts you when a Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI interview appointment opens at the enrollment centers you choose. It costs $25, paid once, for 30 days of monitoring, and you can watch up to 3 enrollment centers. You book the appointment yourself on ttp.dhs.gov. See pricing for how the 30 days work. Whatever date you land on, plug it into Dana's calendar above to choose between profile and My Trips.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Delta says KTNs are active only after you complete enrollment at an application center. Conditional approval alone leaves you with no working number to enter, so wait until enrollment is complete.

  • Log in to your Trusted Traveler Programs account. CBP lists the membership number near the top of the account page, and it is the same PASSID that TSA treats as your KTN. You do not need the physical card.

  • No. The indicator has to appear on your boarding pass. Delta lists a mismatched name or date of birth as a common reason a member is not selected, so keep your Delta profile identical to your CBP record and check each boarding pass.

  • Do both when you can. The profile covers future bookings and syncs to your current trip within 36 to 48 hours. My Trips updates the current reservation automatically, so use it when the flight is within about 2 days.

  • Your PASSID stays tied to your TTP account when you renew, and CBP says you keep benefits for up to 24 months after expiration if you renew before it lapses. Check your Delta profile shows a valid number before you travel.
